twitter rules

I watched a couple videos on teachers who use twitter in the class and it was surprising how the reports came back that more students participated in classroom discussions when using twitter. I plan on being a high school history/political science teacher and most teachers lecture. My daughter is a high school student and falls asleep in her history class constantly, but I think if she had twitter as a tool in this class she would enjoy it and actually get something out of it. I would totally use twitter in my class, the only hope I could get funding for laptops, but I saw that some students use texting on their cell phones. I will have to discuss the rules with phones used in school with the principle, but I am excited about twitter.

wikis rock

I am totally stoked about wikis, they are a great source of information. I used to feel like I was starting from scratch when I was faced with getting a lesson plan together, but after my experience with wikis I feel that I have a wealth of ideas at my finger tips, if the subject is listed.

using blogs in the classroom

I think that using a blog in the classroom is a good idea, but a lot of sensorship is needed on behalf of the teacher, because sites listed on the blog may have inappropriate information for the age of the students. If handled with care blogs can be a useful teaching tool.

my two favorite sites

I chose the New York Times At War as one of my favorite sites because I think it is important to stay abreast of the current conflicts, for they shape our reality. I also chose a history site as my other favorite site because history is important and this site not only deals with events long passed, but also current happenings. These two sites give us information on our world as it is being shaped and the shape its been in.

Malcolm X is my hero. He is uncensored, strong and to the point. He speaks of education, peace, freedomand the danger with blind patriotism. He is a controversial figure due to his unapologizing nature and strong words. He did say that he didn't want to illicit help from the whites in securing rights for blacks, but later admitted that he was wrong and welcomed help from all. This change took place after his trip to Mecca when he saw men of different nationalities and colors praying together. It was here he realized that all can join for a common purpose. Some are unforgiving of his mistakes, I say he is brave to have admitted his. Imagine if we were all this brave.
